UPDATE 1:19 CDT
The deal is done, but still no word on the most crucial aspect: Is there a no-trade clause or not?
Minnesota’s closer agreed to a three-year contract extension, with a team option for a fourth season, on Monday, potentially keeping Nathan in a Twins uniform through the 2012 season. The deal is expected to […]

Breaking news from the clubhouse in Fort Myers, as reported by Phil Miller:
The youngest entrant won the center-field derby.
Carlos Gomez, the 22-year-old prospect acquired in the Johan Santana trade, will open the season in center field for the Twins, after Denard Span and Jason Pridie were optioned to Class AAA Rochester this morning.
Matt Tolbert’s chances […]

Good news… The Twins’ Garrett Jones, who was out of options, was cut today and he cleared waivers. Surely that was disappointing to him, but great for our ball club to have a guy like Jones in AAA in case of injury during the season.
Others cut today: Randy Keisler, Tommy Watkins, Randy Ruiz, and […]

TwinCities.com had the following scoop late last night:
“We’re closer than we thought we were,” Nathan said. Does that mean a contract extension is imminent? Nathan wouldn’t go that far — but he didn’t rule it out, either.
“They had very good talk. Things are headed in a good direction right now,” Nathan said Thursday. “We feel […]

Kelly Theiser reports that Carlos Gomez is doing fine after running full-speed into the right-centerfield fence during today’s spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He just had the wind knocked out of him and Gardenhire figured it best to take him out of the game at the time as a precaution (and […]

The Rangers found out how much it really hurts to be a loser. It turns out that Johan Santana could have given the Twins a green light on a trade to Texas, but his lack of enthusiasm scared the Twins from moving forward with Texas.
I expected Torii Hunter to go to the Rangers, maybe […]

Today, the Twins cut Alexi Casilla and six other Twins. I get the feeling that Casilla will be back on the roster before the All-Star break. Phil Miller had the story on his blog bright and early this morning:
The roster cuts ended up claiming seven players. I saw Mariano Gomez and Howie Clark packing up, and pitchers […]

The Twins seem to be in a bit of a quandary, and that’s the way Denard Span wants it to remain. Gardenhire made it clear yesterday that Jason Pridie will be used as a utility outfielder if he makes the team — and not as the starting center fielder. That means the competition is now […]
